#40,158.06146 Elowah Falls and Ice, yellow lichen winter freeze freezing froze
McCord creek drops 289 feet, shooting out over its cliff to create Elowah Falls. Here, after an early winter cold snap, it leaves a 12’ ice-chute overhang at the top and a 30 foot tall ice-like “volcano” at the bottom. Although there is little to no snow, the air temperatures have been down to minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit for a couple weeks, creating a very unusual view of the falls. Water, spray, waterfalls. The yellow coloring on the face of the cliff is ancient lichen growths, and most of the green is moss. Cascade Locks, Oregon, OR, USA United States of America.
